27 events to keep you busy in January

Now that the holidays are over, unwind with some indoor events including local theater productions are many musical shows including Dayton’s Battle of the Bands or the Ultimate Johnny Cash show.

COMEDY

Dayton improv troupe Pullin’ It will perform at Bricky’s Comedy Club, 319 S. Second St., on Jan. 9 at 7:30 p.m. The show can be described as half “Who’s Line is it Anyway” and half Cohen brothers’ movies where everything is made up on the fly with help from the audience. $15. www.brickyscomedy.com.

The sketch comedy show, “What’s the Meta with You?” will be performed at the Black Box Improv Theater, 518 E. Third St., on Jan. 17 and 18 at 8 p.m. The Black Box sketch team will perform original sketches. $15. www.daytonblackboximprov.com.

Brick Fest Live will be at the Dayton Convention Center, 22 E. Fifth St., on Jan. 11 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Jan. 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Brick Fest Live is a live family event filled with hands-on attractions and activities engineered to inspire, educate and entertain with LEGO bricks. $16.99-$34.99. www.brickfestlive.com.

The Buckeye Wedding Expo and Bridal Show will take place at the Dayton Arcade, 35 W. Fourth St., on Jan. 11 and 12 from 1-5 p.m. Meet event and wedding planners that can help with photography, dresses, food and more. $10. www.shows.buckeyeweddingexpo.com.

Young’s Jersey Dairy will celebrate its 156th birthday on Jan. 17 and 18 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Jan. 19 and 20 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Celebrate with deals at the Dairy Store or at Udders & Putters. The Flyin’ to the Hoop basketball showcase will take place at Trent Arena, 3301 Shroyer Road in Kettering, on Jan. 17, 18, 19 and 20 starting at 11:30 a.m. Watch teams perform in front of sellout crowds of over 20,000 fans, 100-plus members of the media, and 100-plus Division I, II, and III Coaches. $10-$20. www.flyintothehoop.com.

The Dayton Wedding Show and Expo will take place at the Dayton Convention Center, 22 E. Fifth St., on Jan. 18 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Jan. 19 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. More than 90 wedding vendors will be on hand to help patrons with flowers, catering and more. The 23rd annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast hosted by the Centerville-Washington Diversity Council will be held at Yankee Trace, 10000 Yankee St., on Jan. 20 from 7:30-9 a.m. Civil Rights activist and life-long resident of Selma, Alabama, JoAnne Bland will present the keynote address. $25. www.cwtdiversity.org.

A MLK Celebration Banquet will be at the Dayton Arcade on Jan. 20 at 6 p.m. “A Charge to Keep I Have” is the theme for the 2025 MLK Banquet at the Dayton Arcade, featuring an electric address by Dr. Rodney Kennedy. $75. www.daytonfoundation.org.

DANCE

Dayton Restaurant Week will take place Jan. 26 through Feb. 2 at various restaurants in the Dayton area. Every restaurant approaches the week differently, but overall, but most offer three-course meals at a discount at many of the Dayton area’s finest restaurants. The Town Hall Theatre will present “Snow White and the Seven Endings” at the theater, 27 N.
