Breezy, cold today; Scattered snow possible this afternoon

Today will be mostly cloudy, breezy and cold, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

Scattered snow showers are possible this afternoon and could create some slick spots during the evening commute, the NWS said.

Highs will be around 33 degrees, but temperatures will gradually fall to around 24 degrees by this afternoon.

It will be windy with gusts of 20 to 30 mph possible.

Overnight, it will be partly cloudy, breezy and cold, with lows dropping to around 15 degrees.

Saturday will be sunny but still freezing cold, with highs around 25 degrees, followed by a partly cloudy night with lows around 16 degrees.

On Sunday, there will be a chance of snow in the morning and snow showers likely by the afternoon, as a winter storm moves into the area. A Winter Storm Watch is scheduled to be in effect from 7 a.m. Sunday through midnight Tuesday.

The NWS said that the storm is expected to continue through the night and into Monday morning, and could bring heavy snowfall. Mixed precipitation is possible, including accumulating ice. Total snow accumulations could range between 5 to 10 inches, according to the NWS.

It is not yet clear if higher snowfalls will be toward Cincinnati or closer to the Dayton area as of Friday morning.

Highs on Sunday will be around 27 degrees, falling to around 20 degrees overnight.

The storm is expected to usher in an outbreak of bitter cold next week, the NWS said.
