Snowfall is expected to start between noon and 2 p.m. Saturday for the region.
Most of southwest and west central Ohio are expected to get 4 to 6 inches of snow, according to the NWS. Areas near the Indiana border may get closer to 3 to 4 inches.
Snow should come to an end between 10 p.m. Saturday and midnight Sunday for parts of western Ohio. Communities closer to central Ohio could see snowfall continue through 2 a.m. Sunday.
While highs will be in the low 30s Saturday, temperatures will drop during the afternoon as gusty, bitterly cold winds move in, making Saturday afternoon and evening an unpleasant time to be outside or traveling.
The NWS warned travel impacts from this round of snow could last longer and be more substantial when compared to previous snow storms this season.
The Ohio Emergency Management Agency and NWS activated the Ohio Alert Traveler System for the Dayton and Columbus areas due to the winter weather.
Select digital signs in the area will show information about the weather throughout the weekend.
Temperatures will be in single digits Saturday night with subzero windchills.
Snow should come to an end by early Sunday morning, but cold temperatures will remain. Highs will be in the low to mid-teens.
