The Ohio State Buckeyes announced the hiring of Bill Davis as an assistant coach on the defensive staff Wednesday. His exact position has yet to be determined. Davis will join the team after this season ends.

A Youngstown native and four-year letterman for the Cincinnati Bearcats from 1985-88, Davis has spent 24 seasons as a coach in the NFL. He has been a defensive coordinator for seven of those seasons, most recently for three seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles from 2013-15.

Davis also coached linebackers for eight seasons. He was an assistant linebackers coach with the Browns in 1999. He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Michigan State in 1991.

Davis will fill the spot vacated by new UC coach Luke Fickell but won’t necessarily become co-defensive coordinator. He gives the Ohio State staff an extra bit of NFL experience. The Buckeyes already have former NFL head coach Greg Schiano on staff.
