Maliyah Johnson, former Ball State and Texas A&M forward, commits to Dayton Flyers

The Dayton Flyers women’s basketball team announced the addition of Houston transfer Maliyah Johnson, a 6-foot forward from Columbus, on Thursday.

Johnson is the third transfer to commit to Dayton this spring. She joins Fatima Ibrahim, a 6-foot-3 center who played the last two seasons at North Dakota, and Jordyn Poole, a 5-foot-7 guard who played her freshman season at Purdue.

Johnson, a graduate of Africentric Early College, missed last season with a knee injury. She averaged 8.6 points and 3.2 rebounds in 30 games at Houston in the 2023-24 season.

Johnson played her first two seasons at Pittsburgh, averaging 8.5 points and 3.6 rebounds as a sophomore.

At Africentric, Johnson averaged 18.5 points and 12.0 rebounds as a senior in the 2020-21 season. She played for state championship teams in 2018 and 2019.
