Hamad Mousa enters transfer portal after one season with Dayton Flyers

Dayton Flyers freshman guard/forward Hamad Mousa entered the transfer portal on Saturday night.

Jamie Shaw, of On3Sports.com, first reported the news, which was also reported by VerbalCommits.com, which keeps track of all transfer portal entries.

Mousa is the fourth Dayton player to enter the portal this spring. Three Flyers entered the portal in the first two days the portal was open in March: Malachi Smith; Isaac Jack; and then Marvel Allen.

Dayton has four of the 2,113 players in the portal, according to VerbalCommits. The four Flyers have yet to pick a new school, though Smith announced earlier this month he visited Wake Forest and, according to reports, he visited Connecticut on Saturday.

In late March, a source close to the program said “as of now” the five remaining players on the roster, including Mousa, were not expected to transfer, but with the portal open until April 22, there was a chance players could change their mind. That happened last year with Koby Brea, who entered the portal relatively late in the process on April 16.

Mousa, a native of Qatar who committed to Dayton in May 2024, appeared in 20 games, averaging 1.3 points in 7.6 minutes per game. He made 7 of 23 field-goal attempts and 1 of 13 3-pointers.

Mousa saw double-figure minutes six times in 13 non-conference games but only once in 18 Atlantic 10 Conference games and three postseason games. He did not play in the last eight games of the season, including the A-10 tournament and two National Invitation Tournament games.

Mousa’s departure leaves Dayton with nine open spots on the 15-man roster, though it likely will fill some of the spots with walk-ons. The process of adding to the roster continued this weekend with De’Shayne Montgomery, a 6-foot-4 guard who played at Georgia last season, starting a visit to Dayton on Friday.

Dayton’s 2025-26 roster looks like this if no more players leave.
