Two people were injured in a head-on crash in Preble County Thursday — including a 46-year-old man who was airlifted to Miami Valley Hospital with serious injuries.

Around 9:13 a.m., Preble County sheriff’s deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash in the 4000 block of U.S. 127, north of Eaton.

A 2017 Dodge Ram pickup truck was traveling north when it reportedly went left of center and hit a 2025 Freightliner semi tractor-trailer.

Fire and EMS crews worked for approximately an hour to free the drive of the pickup truck, according to the sheriff’s office. An ambulance transported him to the Kettering Health Preble helipad, where he was then taken to Miami Valley Hospital via CareFlight with serious injuries.

An ambulance transported the driver of the semi to Reid Health in Richmond, Indiana, with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the sheriff’s office.

U.S. 127 was closed in both directions between U.S. 40 and state Route 726 for several hours as crews cleared the scene.

In addition to Preble County deputies, Eaton Fire and EMS, North Central EMS and West Manchester Fire responded to the crash. The Ohio Department of Transportation helped with road closures.

The crash remains under investigation.
