“The evolution of full-service casual dining and changing consumer habits around dining out have significantly impacted the way we do business. As difficult as this decision is, we’re taking this opportunity to return to our roots and our original vision,” said Taste of Belgium founder Jean-Francois Flechet. “We expected a much stronger shopping season at The Greene during the holidays, but we just did not see the influx of people we had hoped for. We’re committed to ensuring the survival and sustainability of our business.”
The Beavercreek restaurant had opened in June 2023 near the shopping center’s main entrance after Fuzzy’s Taco Shop closed in January 2021. This was Taste of Belgium’s first expansion outside of the Cincinnati market.
All Beavercreek team members have been notified of the closure, a press release from the company stated.
“The general manager and the entire team at The Greene have been incredibly dedicated to the success of this bistro,” Flechet said. “From a focus on hospitality to ensure our customers feel valued and appreciated, to developing creative events and promotions to engage the community, they have truly gone above and beyond.”
Taste of Belgium closed its Austin Landing location on Dec. 22, 2024 after opening the restaurant in July.
“Closing our Austin Landing location was an incredibly difficult decision, but one we needed to make to ensure the survival of our business as a whole,” Flechet said in a statement at the time. “While we originally chose this site for its promise as a vibrant community hub, shifting dynamics have made it challenging to meet our goals. Despite our efforts, we were unable to generate the momentum needed to thrive in this location.”
Taste of Belgium’s closures in the Dayton market are not the only locations the brand has shuttered.
In September 2024, Taste of Belgium closed two restaurants in the Greater Cincinnati area — Crestview Hills and Fields Ertel — because sales did not meet expectations.
A few months prior, its restaurants near the Liberty Center and Kenwood Towne Centre closed.
The Liberty Twp. Taste of Belgium, which opened in 2022, was the company’s closest location to the Dayton region before it opened the restaurant at The Greene. According to a release, the Liberty Twp. location had “consistently not met expectations due primarily to the proliferation of other fast-casual restaurant options in the growing area.”
Taste of Belgium has several locations that remain open in Cincinnati including 1135 Vine St., 3825 Edwards Road, 16 W. Freedom Way and 1801 Race St.
