This news comes a week after Allen posted on social media that the restaurant was in trouble.
“Sales in general have started to decline across all locations, but Brookville is our most expensive restaurant to operate,” Allen said in a Dec. 17 Facebook post. “We’ve come to a point where my business is in trouble and if things don’t turn around fast I’m gonna be left with no choice but to close our Brookville location.”
Allen said when it came down to it they didn’t have the capital, resources or traffic to pull off what needed to be done.
“Rising food costs and slimmer margins have not helped either,” Allen wrote. “Our costs of goods have gone up substantially this year and it makes it even harder to figure out another way to pull it off.”
Allen is also the co-owner of Cafe 19 at 19 E. National Road in Englewood and 7 S. Miami St. in West Milton. These two coffee shops will remain open.
The owners wanted to open a full-service restaurant after having a high demand for their food at their Englewood location.
“People know us for coffee. They know us for breakfast and Englewood over the last two years has been getting really busy,” Allen previously said. “It’s a really small location and we needed somewhere bigger for people to go.”
The Brookville restaurant offered customer favorites from the Englewood location, as well as additional items.
“Thank you all for the memories that Scramble has made, the friends that we’ve made along the way and I hope to see you again,” Allen said.
