When Dayton police arrived on scene, they learned a domestic violence offense happened and a temporary protection order had been violated, said Maj. Paul Saunders.
“The victim was able to exit the residence, but three children remained inside,” he said. “Officers quickly established a perimeter and safely removed the children.”
The suspect had a history with weapons and was believed to be inside the home. Crews requested SWAT, the Hostage Negotiation Team and Family Justice Center.
Police asked the public to avoid Walton Avenue between Hoover Avenue and Oakridge Drive and Kammer Avenue between Westwood and Leland avenues as the investigation continued.
SWAT later cleared the scene and determined the suspect escaped during the initial perimeter setup, Saunders said.
Montgomery County Regional Dispatch confirmed that crews left the scene at 7:17 p.m.
