Here’s a look inside Nhà Thờ Thánh Tâm (Sacred Heart Church), located at 217 W. 4th St. in downtown Dayton, decorated for Christmas. In 1883, Fr. H.J. McDevitt, an assistant at Dayton’s St. Joseph Catholic Church, established Sacred Heart Catholic Church due to overcrowding at St. Joseph. Designed by Dayton architect Charles Insco Williams in 1888 using Romanesque and Queen Anne architectural styles, construction was completed in 1890. Church membership had subsided by 1996, leading to the closing of the church. In 2001, the building reopened as Nhà Thờ Thánh Tâm, which translates from the Vietnamese language to Sacred Heart Church, home to the Catholic Vietnamese Community of Dayton.
