Old Dayton Pizza at Riverside Hideaway will be closing its doors end of shift Feb. 10, according to a post on the restaurant’s Facebook page.

“...We are committed to making every moment count until then. Going forward we will be accepting cash only,” the post said. “We would like to thank all of our loyal customers for all of your continued support!”

Sherri and Steve Zelen purchased the former Green Lantern and the surrounding three-acre property in 2019.

The former Green Lantern traces its history back more than a century, and it has served as a local watering hole for many decades, just north of the Dayton city limits.

Steve Zelen had operated pizza restaurants in Florida before coming to Ohio where he developed a Roman-style pizza dough recipe that was unlike anything available in the area.

“The crust has the perfect ratio of crisp to chew,” he previously said.

When the owners announced the upcoming closure, customers said they were sad to see it go.

“This is a sad read,” wrote Brian Harris. “We love you guys. We’ll be back this week to get one final pizza (hog roast for me).”

“I hate to hear this. All of your food is amazing. I’m going to need the recipe to that pizza dough,” Alicia M. Frame said. “All I know is it was a process. Definitely worth it!”

“This is saddening, your pizza and meatballs are the best,” Pamela Adkins wrote.

Old Dayton Pizza is located at 3490 Old Troy Pike in Riverside.

While there have been multiple closures in the Dayton region, there have also been many restaurant and bar openings. From chains to locally owned establishments, customers were able to try a variety of cuisines and unique dishes as nearly 100 opened throughout 2024.
