“Officers first made contact with the caller and learned that the male had a history of violence and mental health,” police said.
By 8:43 a.m., the armed suspect returned to the residence and was identified by the 911 caller. Police said the man was in a car and had a gun. A county-wide request for assistance was made.
At 9:09 a.m., police said after attempting to de-escalate the situation for more than 25 minutes, the man “brandished his weapon” and in return, police shot at him.
After being given aid, police took the suspect to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Rosedale Drive was closed while officials from multiple jurisdictions were there.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation will handle the shooting investigation. A separate independent administrative investigation will be conducted by the Professionals Standard Bureau.
Additional details will be released at a later time, police said.
