Late Wednesday a police officer was patrolling the area of South River Street near Farm Avenue when they noticed a red Mercedes. When the officer checked the license plate, they learned the registered owner had multiple active felony warrants, according to police.
The officer attempted a traffic stop, but the car reportedly did not yield to lights or sirens.
The car then fled south on Dixie Drive toward Middletown before continuing onto state Route 122 and then I-75 North.
While in Moraine the car drove onto the right shoulder to pass three semi trucks, which appeared to be providing a roadblock, police said.
The officer tried to follow the car onto the shoulder but had to get back onto the road to avoid an unoccupied disabled vehicle. The cruiser hit the trailer on a semi truck and the pursuit was terminated for officer safety, according to police. The chase lasted approximately 15 minutes.
A second Franklin cruiser equipped with StarChase, a mounted GPS system that police can fire at fleeing vehicles to track them, attempted to get into position to deploy a GPS tracker, but was unable to, police said.
Police are still searching for the suspect. Anyone with information should call Detective Sgt. Jordan Colvin at 937-746-2882.
