The contest is designed to gain community and regional support for Miami Twp.’s celebration, Miami Twp. said.
“By conducting this contest now, the township will make every effort to add the logo to all township public facing materials including news releases, newsletters, website, social media, and any other township materials, to increase awareness and excitement about the 200th birthday,” the township said in a list of contest rules.

The logo contest also is part of how the township plans to involve the community in its plans for celebrations leading up to Dec. 9, 2029. Miami Twp. said it will conduct surveys to garner residents’ feedback and ideas and offer contests and events that tie into the grand celebration.

Those submitting an entry should include a brief description of the design and its meaning. The winning logo will be used on all public materials through the bicentennial in December 2029.
The township got its start in 1829 with 40 square miles of land annexed from Washington Twp. It was originally east of the Great Miami River, but additional land was acquired from Van Buren Twp. and German Twp. west of the river between 1831 and 1841, according to “Images of America: Miami Township,” a publication written for the township’s 175th anniversary.
