A man accused of forging checks and stealing nearly $6,000 from two older adults in Montgomery County pleaded guilty in connection to the case.

Shady Kassis, 35, pleaded guilty to one count of forgery earlier this week, according to Montgomery County Common Pleas Court records. Two counts of theft from an elderly or disabled person were dismissed.

A probation report for Kassis is scheduled for Jan. 16.

Kassis and his codefendant, John Navarro, forged checks belonging to a 68-year-old and a 70-year-old and then cashed them, according to the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office.

The incidents took place in the Washington Twp. area around March 14.

Navarro was initially indicted on two counts of forgery and four counts of theft earlier this year, but one count of forgery and two counts of theft were dismissed in October, according to court records.

There are no pending hearings scheduled in his case.
