A man is accused of stabbing his boyfriend to death earlier this week in Dayton.

Jerome Lee Walker, 47, is facing two counts each of murder and felonious assault and one count of tampering with evidence in Dayton Municipal Court.

His bond was set at $1 million on Thursday.

Around 7:15 a.m. Tuesday, Dayton police responded to stabbing reported at an apartment in the 1900 block of Elsmere Avenue.

Officers spoke to Walker, who said his boyfriend had been accidentally stabbed with a wire coat hanger, according to records.

The man, later identified as 34-year-old Steven Echols, had a serious wound on his upper chest and neck area.

Echols was taken to Miami Valley Hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Investigators determined Walker was a suspect during interviews.

Walker admitted to stabbing Echols during a fight, according to court documents.

“Walker also stated he hid the weapon because he was scared,” an affidavit read.

Police arrested Walker at the apartment and booked him into the Montgomery County Jail.
