The council previously extended a moratorium on such businesses through June.
In November 2023, Ohioans approved Issue 2, which legalized recreational marijuana. But the statewide ballot initiative allows municipalities to adopt ordinances to prohibit cannabis cultivators, processors and dispensaries within their borders.
“Home grow and use would still be allowed in accordance with state law,” City Manager Matt Greeson said.
Numerous other Dayton-area cities passed moratoriums on marijuana businesses in the immediate aftermath of Issue 2’s passage, with some still deciding how to move forward. A few of the communities that did not forbid the businesses now have active dispensary stores.
Kettering City Council members back in June 2018 also voted to prohibit medical marijuana businesses in the city, which forbids cultivating, processing and dispensing of medical marijuana in Kettering.
