A 23-year-old man died early Sunday following a crash into a telephone pole in Moraine.

Andres Gomez was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.

The single-vehicle crash happened around 1:40 a.m. on the exit from southbound Interstate 75 to state Route 741, according to the Moraine Police Division.

Officers found a Honda Civic with heavy damage after it struck a pole off the side of the roadway and landed in a ditch between the exit ramp to Springboro Pike and the interstate above.

A male passenger was injured and taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Moraine Police accident investigators and the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office were called in to assist.

“While the cause of the crash is not yet known, alcohol is suspected to be a factor,” police said.

The exit ramp remained closed until 5 a.m.
