Dayton rec centers to serve as warming options during frigid temperatures this week

The Dayton recreation centers will serve as warming centers for those who need to get out of the cold during freezing temperatures this week.

With daily highs expected to be in the low 20s for the second half of the week, the Dayton Fire Department wants to remind residents of where they can go to warm up.

Dayton’s three rec centers are available as warming centers. They’re located at:

  • Greater Dayton Recreation Center: 2021 W. Third St.
  • Lohrey Recreation Center: 2366 Glenarm Ave.
  • Northwest Recreation Center: 1600 Princeton Drive

The recreation centers are open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Those who need warm shelter outside of those hours should go to St. Vincent DePaul shelter facilities.

The men’s shelter is at 1921 S. Gettysburg Ave. and the women and families’ shelter is at 120 W. Apple St.

Daytonians are encouraged to check on their neighbors to see if they need any help during the cold and to provide proper care and shelter for any pets who go outside.
