Crews battled the flames for hours and continued to suppress the fire through the night.
The house was destroyed in the fire.
Multiple people called 911 to report the explosion.
One caller said she saw someone go into the house, according to Miami County Communication Center records.
“He’s trying to get the guy out that lives there I think,” she said. “He just drug him out.”
Additional information about injuries was not available.
Covington Avenue was closed between Sunset Drive and College Street as crews put out the fire. The street reopened around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Troy and Covington firefighters also responded, as well as the Piqua Police Department, Miami County Sheriff’s Office, Piqua Public Works Department, CenterPoint Energy and Piqua Power System.
