Two men who died following two separate shootings in Dayton Wednesday night have been identified.

Joseph Brandenburg, 48, and Deelaquan Smith, 23, both were pronounced dead at Miami Valley Hospital, according to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.

The first shooting was reported around 6:35 p.m. in the first block of Lombard Avenue.

When officers arrived they found a 48-year-old man, later identified as Brandenburg, who had been shot multiple times, said Dayton police Lt. Eric Sheldon.

“A possible suspect was located and interviewed by detectives,” Sheldon said. “Multiple items of evidentiary value were recovered including multiple handguns and multiple casings.”

About five hours later, around 11:30 p.m., police responded to a second shooting reported in the 3400 block of Valerie Arms Drive.

Officers found a man later identified as Smith. He was taken to the hospital and succumbed to his injuries, Sheldon said.
