A woman has died after a Saturday house fire in Kettering.

Crews responded to reports of a structure fire around 5:15 p.m. in the 2600 block of East Dorothy Lane, said Kettering Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Mike Miller.

Responding firefighters found a single-story house with heavy smoke and visible flames, and a neighbor said there were one or two people who lived there who were unaccounted for.

Crews forced their way through the front door, which the assistant chief said was nearly blocked by hoarding-type conditions inside.

More crews entered through the back door and found a woman they believe is the lone resident near the back of the house, Miller said. Medics took her to Kettering Health Main Campus, where she was pronounced dead.

The fire caused an estimated $50,000 in structural damage and an estimated $10,000 in damages to contents.

Miller said the cause of the fire is undetermined, but the origin centered around a space heater and electrical wiring.
