The National Weather Service in Wilmington predicted a major winter weather system will come through the region Sunday into Monday, potentially bringing “significant precipitation” with it.

The exact amount of expected snow remains unclear, and the situation is still developing.

If this storm hits Southwest Ohio, it could be an opportunity to try a number of snow-based activities, such as skiing, snowboarding or tubing. For those looking to take part in these hobbies, here are ideal nearby places to go:

🏔️ Mad River Mountain

Hours: Resort is open 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Sunday. Tubing is offered 5-9 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Sunday. Tubing is not available Monday through Wednesday.

More info: The largest ski resort in Ohio, Mad River Mountain features 16 trails more than 144 acres of snow. With a peak elevation of 1,460 feet, guests can traverse the mountain with the resort’s nine lifts. Mad River Mountain also has the largest tubing park in the state, with a lane more than 1,000 feet long.

More info: The Snow Trails resort is famous for being home to Ohio’s longest ski trail, the Timberline Trail. However, the park also features a variety of activities for guests of all skill levels, including the tubing lanes. Tickets for this resort must be purchased in advance.

🏔️ Perfect North Slopes

Perfect North Slopes in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, features skiing, snowboarding and snow tubing. The popular regional attraction opened in 1980. CONTRIBUTED

More info: Perfect North Slopes in Lawrenceburg, Ind. contains 23 different trails. The resort also features two terrain parks, each with a variety of jumps and rails. Tubing is also offered at the park, with 25 lanes available.

🏔️ Valley’s Edge Snow Tubing

Hours: 5-9 p.m. Thursday, 5-10 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday and noon-8 p.m. Sunday. Park is closed Monday through Wednesday.

Location: 8295 Ohio 121, New Paris

More info: Focused only on snow tubing, Valley’s Edge features a variety of lanes and two cable lifts. While not a ski resort, the park also has a lodge on property, where guests can warm up with refreshments.
