Larry and Letitia Curless were rarely apart.

So it wasn’t surprising that the Monroe couple couldn’t live without each other, said their son, Loren.

Letitia, 83, passed away Dec. 21 at Ohio Living at Mount Pleasant in Monroe and her husband of 59 years, Larry, 87, died the following day.

“They were very, very close,” their son said. “If you saw one, you saw the other.”

Now they will be together forever.

A visitation for the couple will be 10 a.m. to noon Friday at First Presbyterian Church, 2910 Central Ave., Middletown. A celebration of life service will follow at the church with Pastor Justin Miller officiating. Interment will be at Butler County Memorial Park.

The couple met in 1964 when Larry’s mother, Elsa, introduced him to Letitia. They played tennis on their first date, fell in love and married in 1965, the family said.

She graduated from Portsmouth High School and Ohio University with a bachelor’s degree in education. She taught at Deer Park Schools, Middletown City Schools, and then was a nursery school teacher until their son Loren was born, then she stayed at home and cared for him and their daughter, Linette.

He graduated from Sycamore High School and the University of Cincinnati earning a degree in mechanical engineering. He was a mechanical engineer for ARMCO/AK Steel, retiring after 35 years.

The couple also made an impact in the Middletown community. They were longtime members of First Presbyterian Church and the Kiwanis Club of Middletown.

A notice on the Kiwanis Club Facebook post called the couple “cherished members” and their “contributions to our club and the community have left an indelible mark, and they will be deeply missed.”

Marla Marsh, president of the club, said Letitia was the club’s designated “greeter” at meetings and events and organized its annual member Christmas party. Larry was known for making the batter for the club’s Pancake Breakfast.

Marsh said the couple always attended meetings together unless one of them was volunteering elsewhere. She described their relationship as “true love” and them as “a beautiful couple that showed what a marriage and a Kiwanian should be.”

Letitia loved crafting and sewing and worked in catering at the Beach Water Park. She played Mrs. Claus for the Doty House and other organizations.

Larry participated in organizing the James A. Combs Memorial Golf Tournament every year and worked various fundraisers for the Middletown Kiwanis Club. He was on the board at Mount Pleasant and volunteered at Atrium Medical Center. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and gardening. He was also a dedicated Cincinnati sports fan, always rooting for the Cincinnati Reds, Bengals and Cincinnati Bearcats.
