Dixie Dairy Dreem opens second location in former Kettering Dairy Queen

Dixie Dairy Dreem has opened a second location in the Dayton region.

The ice cream shop with hot dogs, burgers and more is located in the former Dairy Queen at 2056 E. Dorothy Lane in Kettering.

Dairy Queen has been closed since at least Oct. 10. The original sign posted at the business cited a maintenance issue.

General Manager Whitney Heys, who has worked on and off at Dixie Dairy Dreem in Moraine since 2011, said Owner Dominic Minella had been looking to open a second location.

“It just came up as a great opportunity,” Heys said.

The ice cream shop offers soft serve ice cream, dairy-free Dole Whip and eight hand-dipped ice cream flavors. Customers can order artic swirls (which are similar to blizzards), shakes, sundaes, parfaits or slushies.

Customer favorites include peanut butter shakes, chocolate shakes, Oreo artic swirls, Reese’s Cup artic swirls or regular ice cream cones.

Dairy Dreem offers a wide variety of food, but right now they do not have a fryer. Minella has plans to get a fryer before the end of the month.

The ice cream shop currently offers hot dogs, foot longs, burgers, nachos, pretzels and cheese and chips.

Once they have a fryer, the Kettering location will have the same menu as the Moraine location with favorites such as pork tenderloins, cheese curds and tater kegs filled with cheese, chives and bacon.

The ice cream shop’s original location at 4542 S. Dixie Drive remains open.

Minella, an Oakwood native, bought the ice cream shop about 10 years ago. He once operated a Mister Softee food truck throughout the region after he inherited it from his grandparents.

Dixie Dairy Dreem is a community staple that has been operating since 1951.

Heys is looking forward to “seeing a lot new faces and making people happy.”
