The Dayton Society of Artists, one of the city’s premier art organizations, will host a live music and art fundraiser on Feb. 1 at Cosmo Joe’s Atomic Lounge.

Titled Don’t Leave DSA Out in the Cold, the event will feature music, art and community support to celebrate the replacement of DSA’s furnace.

Admission is free, though donations are suggested. The event offers a chance to enjoy music, food and art while supporting DSA’s mission to “connect, support and educate artists and the community.”

The night will showcase four local music acts. Acoustic singer-songwriter Matt Cary will open the evening at 6 p.m., followed by pianist/singer Miranda Pennington. Next up is Basement Moonshine, an all-female, roots-based band blending guitar, mandolin, washboard and the unique sound of the singing saw. The night will close with Sugr Rock, a blues/rock duo.

In addition to live music, a pop-up art show will feature a vibrant collection of works by DSA member artists, all available for purchase to support the fundraiser.

The Pizza Factory will provide complimentary pizza throughout the event.

Guests can enter to win raffle prizes donated by local businesses. Items include a gift card from Blick Art Materials, the “Brown Street Bundle” (gift cards to Dewey’s Pizza, Panera Bread and Starbucks), a wine tasting at Cooper’s Hawk and tickets to the Cincinnati Reds’ 2025 season.

“This is one of our fun fundraisers for the members and the community to get together and have a good time,” said Tamiko Stump, DSA board member and event organizer. “It’s more of a celebration of the local arts community. At our last event, we did karaoke, and a lot of the members didn’t know each other, so it was a chance for them to socialize.”

The recent furnace replacement at the DSA building, located at 48 High St., cost around $13,000. While Don’t Leave DSA Out in the Cold is an opportunity for the arts community to come together, it also helps the organization replenish its funds.

Founded in 1938 as the Dayton Society of Painters and Sculptors, the DSA was established by local artists in collaboration with the Dayton Art Institute. After decades of meetings and exhibits, the organization officially changed its name to the Dayton Society of Artists in 2016 to better reflect its inclusive mission.

The DSA rents out its upstairs bedrooms as private art studios. The organization hosts seven exhibitions annually and offers workshops and events to support its members and the wider community.

The DSA’s next exhibition, “The Future is Female,” will be on display from Feb. 2 to March 23. The exhibit will focus on the ideals, hopes and experiences of women identifying artists.
