Police swarmed a busy Miamisburg road Thursday afternoon after reports poured in about two men with guns.

The calls started coming in around 4 p.m. about two men pointing guns at each other in the area of state Route 725 (Miamisburg-Centerville Road) and Imperial Road, west of Interstate 75,

Several officers responded, in addition to crews from West Carrollton, Miami Twp. and possibly the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office before Miamisburg officers got the situation under control, said Miamisburg police Sgt. Jeff Muncy.

The guns, which resembled handguns, were BB guns, he said.

Both men, ages 18 and 21, told police they were just fooling around, and at least one fired at the other, Muncy said.

“No matter using fake or real guns these individuals put themselves at great risk because officers are unable to tell the difference between a real and fake gun when having to make a split second decision,” Muncy said.

Also, officers have to make an emergency response with lights and sirens for these types of calls to get to the scene as quickly as possible, “putting not only themselves but the rest of the motoring public in some possible danger,” he said.

Both men were arrested Thursday. They were arraigned Friday in Miamisburg Municipal Court for inducing panic, and the 18-year-old also is charged with obstructing official business. All charges are misdemeanors.

Their bond was set at $7,500 each, and as of Friday afternoon only the younger man has been released on bail, court and jail records show.
